Beauty From Nature: Why We Should Switch To Organic Cosmetics And How To Make Them Ourselves
Did you know that in the 70s and 80s of the last century, punks en masse used a thick mixture of sugar and water to style and “concrete” their eccentric, spiky hairstyles? This sweet trick definitely did the job for their rebellious image.
People have always studied and used natural resources, and the topic of organic cosmetics is particularly relevant today, with the multitude of available medical studies proving the potential harms of conventional products. They are often full of parabens, artificial fragrances, and preservatives.

You can prepare many of the different cosmetic products yourself at home, controlling every single ingredient.
We have prepared two tried-and-tested recipes for basic products with which to start your journey.
Natural Cream Deodorant 🥥

Most commercial antiperspirant deodorants contain aluminum salts that block the sweat glands. This homemade deodorant does not stop the natural sweating process, but it neutralizes the bacteria that cause the unpleasant odor.
Ingredients:
- 3 tbsp coconut oil (unrefined)
- 2 tbsp baking soda (if you have very sensitive skin, reduce the amount by half)
- 2 tbsp cornstarch (or arrowroot powder) to absorb moisture
- 10-15 drops of essential oil of your choice (lavender or tea tree are great antibacterial options)

Method of preparation:
- If the coconut oil is solid, melt it slightly in a water bath.
- In a glass or ceramic (not plastic) bowl, mix the baking soda and cornstarch.
- Add the coconut oil and stir until a smooth paste is formed.
- Drip in the essential oil and stir again.
- Transfer to a small glass jar. Apply with your fingers (a pea-sized amount is perfectly sufficient).
Homemade Sunscreen Lotion ☀️

Creating your own sun protection is a great way to avoid chemical filters, but it requires caution. The active ingredient here is zinc oxide, which acts as a physical shield, reflecting UV rays.
Important Note: It is very important to use non-nano zinc oxide, so that it does not penetrate the bloodstream through the skin. Since it is difficult to measure the exact SPF factor at home, use this lotion for moderate sun exposure and apply frequently!
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup carrier oil (almond oil or olive oil)
- 1/4 cup coconut oil (provides natural minimal SPF and hydration)
- 1/4 cup beeswax (makes the lotion waterproof)
- 2 tbsp zinc oxide powder (non-nano)
- Optional: 1 tsp raspberry seed oil or carrot seed oil (both have high natural protective properties)

Method of preparation:
- Put the almond oil, coconut oil, and beeswax in a glass container in a water bath over medium heat.
- Once everything is completely melted, remove from the heat.
- Put a mask on your face (so you don’t inhale the powder) and carefully add the zinc oxide.
- Stir vigorously with a whisk until the mixture becomes completely smooth and lump-free.
- Pour into a glass jar or a suitable dispenser while the mixture is still warm.
- Store in a cool and dry place.

Switching to organic cosmetics is not just a trend, but a way to show respect to our own bodies. Try these recipes and see for yourself!
